Water Softener Common Questions:
What causes the rotten egg smell?
What is sulfur?
Should I be worried about sulfur?
Yes, for plumbing reasons.
How does water become ‘hard’?
Water becomes hard from absorbing calcium and magnesium from limestone, chalk, or marble deposits.
What is a resin tank?
A resin tank holds the resin beads to complete the ion exchange.
What is the point of the ion exchange?
This is the process that makes the water soft. The hard ions trade places with the soft ions on the resin beads.
What is regeneration?
Salt from the brine tank filters in the opposite direction as the water. Water to the residence is not accessible at this time and usually occurs at odd hours of the morning such as 4:45 a.m.
What task does the brine tank have?
After the regeneration process, brine water is drained from the resin tank and is thoroughly rinsed so the water softening process can repeat.
What causes yellow stains at the bottom of my tubs and sinks?
Yellow staining is a result of high iron in your water, creating rust.
Is iron harmful to us?
No, not harmful to those consuming it.
Why does the water turn a shade of brown?
This is another result of high iron in the water.
What does pH stand for?

The measurement of acidity in substances.
