Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night or early morning and turned on the faucet only to see a little bit of water of coming out? Perhaps, your instincts told you to go outside to check on the water softener pumps and you may have discovered water leaking out the drain line connected to the pump.

We are here to tell you this is normal.

That is right; it is normal and totally ok. This process is called the regeneration process and it is common to happen in the middle of the night or in the wee hours of the morning. It happens during those times with hopes that you will be sleeping and won’t need to access the faucet. One of the reasons the regeneration cycle takes place is because the system needs ‘recharging,’ or in other words the resin or zeolite beads are fully absorbed with calcium and magnesium. The recharging process can be set to a period of time, this is called a clock generation. The system is set to run after a specific number of gallons have been used are referred to as metered.
